3 Of The Very Best Museums To Visit On Your Ibiza Holiday

Take a break from the pool and beach on your holiday in Ibiza and visit one of the many museums located in Ibiza Town.

We have given below, details of 3 of the best museums to visit.

Museu Arqueologic d’Eivissa i Formentera

Located in Ibiza Town [Plaza de la Catedral], this is probably the most interesting exhibition of excavations in Ca Na Costa on the neighbouring island of Formentera, which were uncovered in 1975.  Other exhibits include those from the history of Ibiza going back to Roman times.

The building itself also serves as an attraction.  Originally part of the old university, which was founded in 1907, it and was then enlarged /extended into the medieval fortifications of the town.Museum in Ibiza

The museum is open:
April to September on Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00-14:00 and 17:00-19:30. Sundays from 10:00-14:00
October to March on Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00-13:00 and 16:00-18:00.  Sundays from 10:00-14:00

Expect to pay a small entrance fee of approximately 3 euros per person. See more at http://www.maef.es/

Museu  d’Art Contemporani

The building was built in 1727 and originally used as an arsenal and later became barracks and stables.

Located in Ibiza Town [Ronda de Narcis Puget], the museum was recently renovated and now houses an international collection of engravings and paintings, which date back to 1959 to the present day.  So if you like more u-to-date art, then probably this is the museum for you.

The museum is open:

May to October on Tuesdays-Sunday from 10:00-13:30 and 17:00-20:00

November to April on Tuesday-Friday from 10:00-13:00, and 16:00-18:00.   On Saturdays and Sundays it is open 10:00-13:30

Entrance is free of charge.

Museu Puget

Located in Ibiza Town [Calle Major], this is a relatively new museum, which houses a permanent collection of paintings and photographs by Ibizan artists Narcis Puget Vinas.

The building itself is also of interest as it dates back to the 15th century and was once a grand Ibizan mansion house.   You will be able to see gothic style windows, a central courtyard and lovely views of the harbour.

The museum is open:

May to September on Tuesday-Friday from 10:00-13:30 and 17:00-20:00.  At the weekends 10:00-13:30

October to April on Tuesday-Friday from 10:00-13:30 and 16:00-18:00.  At the weekends 10:00-13:30

Entrance is free of charge.
